PEATS RIDGE FORMS PARTNERSHIP WITH UNITED NATIONS

Peats Ridge has been made a founding partner of the UN music and environment initiative, heading up the global technical solutions taskforce.

The Peats Ridge team recently returned from the UN office in Norway where they were invited by the UN to sit down with leaders from the music industry worldwide to be part of a think-tank to brainstorm the outcomes and develop the initiative. Peats Ridge was the only organisation invited from the Southern hemisphere. Festival representatives from the Northern Hemisphere invited included Glastonbury, Roskilde, Lollapalooza, Boom and Oya Festival.

The think-tank was held over 2 days in Arundel, Norway. Agreed outcomes were the formation of 5 global taskforces to address the areas of technical solutions, industry engagement, audience engagement, government regulation and legislation and education.

The technical taskforce are to investigate how green technology can assist the music industry and festivals in particular to reduce their impact as well as looking at cross-industry solutions for events and investigate how the formation of festivals which involved the creation of small cities can transfer the knowledge learnt and sustainable outcomes to disaster relief and humanitarian crises.

Peats Ridge is extremely honoured and excited to be a leader within this initiative.

The initiative is expected to be launched in December 2010 and is run by the United Nations Environmental Programme, Nairobi.
