CONTAINER DEPOSITS

At Peats Ridge we do all we can to make sure every empty drink container is recycled. The best way to do this in our experience is to attach a real value for your audience to your recyclables. We add a $1 levy on every can or bottle that is refunded when drinkers return their aluminum cans and PET bottles.

 
This container deposit system or CDL encourages patrons to actively participate in recycling whilst reducing litter and waste ending up in landfill. The best part about running a CDL systems at your event are that it not only reduces environmental impacts but also provide an income stream through aluminum recycling.

This also results in a further reduction in costs through smaller tipping fees (for mixed waste going to landfill) and a reduction in the number of skips required.

Volunteers staff our refund station system so there are no labour costs. You will need to estimate the volume and rate of container returns likely in order to roster staffing. Given the financial incentive attached to the refundable item it is an extremely successful method of recycling so count on a high participation rate. A container deposit system also has a nice secondary impact of forcing people to consider the value of their “waste” materials.
